May Newsletter

Thank you everyone who encouraged, shared, and made donations to our Give In May Campaign in celebration of AAPI month. We were able to raise about $16,300 for LHTP programs and services!!! We have been wrapping up some of our final events for the school year before our high school students go into finals. LHTP took our kids, tutors, and families to the annual Kite Festival at the Historic State Park field trip. It was a fun day at the park for flying kites, lunch, enjoying the outdoors, and games with prizes.

Our “Increase the Peace” Committee & Support Team hosted their 5th annual GreenSpace Challenge event at Lincoln Park. We had a good turn out from our JYC & YUCA members, and our local high schools who joined in for a day of cleaning Lincoln Park, GreenSpace presentation about health, conservation, trivia, relay races & prizes, planting flower pots to give out to park attendees, lunch, and goodie bags. It was neat, at the end of the day, two of our leaders were interviewed for an article in LAist about our event and the positive impact we made.

Our YUCA & JYC youth clubs held their End of the Spring Banquet celebrations to honor our leadership teams, seniors, “Increase the Peace” leadership team, youth club members, and to close out the school year together with delicious food, slideshow, trophies & awards ceremony, trivia games, and prizes. We were excited for our leaders who were recognized by CD1 Councilmember Hernandez for their service to their peers and their community with beautiful certificates from the City of Los Angeles, along with their JYC, YUCA, and “IP” trophies. In addition, our leaders who are graduating seniors receive their scholarship through our leadership program.

We were able to celebrate with our Directing, Office, and Tutoring staff with our LHTP Spring Staff luncheon to thank them for all their hard work and dedication in helping their students excel.

Upcoming events will be graduations and our JYC, YUCA, and “IP” leadership training retreats.
