PURPOSE
The Lincoln Heights Tutorial Program

Located in the heart of Los Angeles, the grassroots Lincoln Heights Tutorial Program (LHTP) empowers urban youth through academic support, community service, and leadership development. Since 1985, we have worked to narrow the opportunity gap and give children the opportunity to reach their full potential.

LHTP started by tutoring 16 students in Lincoln Heights and now supports over 1,000 inner city children and teens each year. Our reach has expanded to include the East LA communities of Boyle Heights, Chinatown, and El Sereno.

Our Children and Our Youth

Through our free programs for teens, LHTP has supported thousands underserved youth. The historic Lincoln Heights community represents determination and progress, but face ever widening opportunity gaps.

-
99% of local students belong to a minority group
-
93% of local students are economically disadvantaged
-
Over 3,000 youth in Lincoln Heights alone live in poverty
-
41% of adults have less than a high school education

Closing the opportunity gap takes more than classroom learning — it takes a community.
At LHTP, our tutoring programs equip students with the academic foundation they need to thrive in high school. Our youth development programs go further, preparing them for life beyond graduation. The result? 99% of our students choose to pursue college after high school!
With continued support from LHTP, our alumni are not only succeeding in college — they’re thriving in their careers and building meaningful, empowered lives.
